SERVIR Hindu Kush Himalaya helps improve environmental management and resilience in critical areas like food security, water resources management, disaster resilience, and sustainable land and ecosystem management in the Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) region.
The hub was established in 2010 at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Implementer: ICIMOD is a regional intergovernmental learning and knowledge sharing center serving the eight regional member countries of the Hindu Kush Himalayas (HKH). With the increasing influence of globalization and climate change on the stability of fragile mountain ecosystems and the livelihoods of mountain people, ICIMOD aims to assist mountain people to understand these changes, adapt to them, and make the most of new opportunities, while addressing upstream-downstream issues.
SERVIR Hindu Kush Himalaya strengthens ICIMOD’s capabilities as an established regional resource center on geospatial information and Earth observation applications for the HKH region. Stakeholders range from decision-makers at the regional level addressing transboundary issues, to national governments, scientists, students, the general public, and development practitioners working in the region.
Countries: Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan.

SERVIR HKH training advances women's skills in Earth observation & geospatial information technology
Since 2018, SERVIR has conducted 12 training programs for young and early-career women in geospatial information technology (GIT), reaching 1,490 women across the region. The training focuses on using technologies to collect, store, analyze, and visualize spatial or geographic data about observing the Earth’s surface and human activity. Participants learn about key concepts and how to use applications that depend on EO data and GIT.
